The scientist in Dr. David Dosa was skeptical when first told that Oscar, an aloof cat kept by a nursing home, regularly predicted patients’ deaths by snuggling alongside them in their final hours.

The nursing home adopted Oscar, a medium-haired cat with a gray-and-brown back and white belly, in 2005 because its staff thinks pets make the Steere House a home. They play with visiting children and prove a welcome distraction for patients and doctors alike.

After a year, the staff noticed that Oscar would spend his days pacing from room to room. He sniffed and looked at the patients but rarely spent much time with anyone — except when they had just hours to live. He’s accurate enough that the staff know it’s time to call family members when Oscar stretches beside their patients, who are generally too ill to notice his presence. If kept outside the room of a dying patient, he’ll scratch at doors and walls, trying to get in.

Dosa does not explain Oscar scientifically in his book, although he theorizes the cat imitates the nurses who raised him or smells odors given off by dying cells, perhaps like some dogs who scientists say can detect cancer using their sense of scent.

Learn about common Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts. A keyboard shortcut is a way to invoke a function in Mac OS X by pressing a combination of keys on your keyboard.

To use a keyboard shortcut, or key combination, you press a modifier key with a character key. For example, pressing the Command key (the key with a symbol) and the “c” key at the same time copies whatever is currently selected (text, graphics, and so forth) into the Clipboard. This is also known as the Command-C key combination (or keyboard shortcut).

A modifier key is a part of many key combinations. A modifier key alters the way other keystrokes or mouse clicks are interpreted by Mac OS X. Modifier keys include: Command, Control, Option, Shift, Caps Lock, and (on portable Macs) the fn key.

Press the key or key combination until the expected function occurs/appears (for example, hold Option during startup until Startup Manager appears, or Shift until “Safe Boot” appears). Tip: If a startup function doesn’t work and you use a third-party keyboard, connect an Apple keyboard and try again.

Recently, all i see is computers and more computers. Too much to a point that sometimes you think that you a machine as well. Haven’t really had much time to blog lately due to my inconsistent daily schedule.

My timing is really messed up now. I’m awake when everyone’s asleep and recently, i don’t eat that much. Just a meal a day is sufficient enough for me. I mostly skip breakfast and skip to lunch or sometimes skip them both and just have dinner. Also, something weird for me. My BFF called me up which i find it kinda weird because she never ever called me before. She said she saw me on the train but she didn’t approach me haha.

Anyway, i’m outside now and my battery is halfway dead. So let’s just make this post a quickie and after this, i’ll be heading my way back home. Got to design a web template and i hope to get it done as soon as possible.

Everything is different now. It is much more exciting in a way. You’ll never know whom you gonna meet, what to expect and everyday is a new day. Today i traveled a lot. If this keeps up, i’m sure i’ll get to know more hidden places around Singapore.

I’ve met many individuals each with their on unique personality. Some are good and some are bad. But then we’re only humans, no one is perfect. You’ll just have to learn to understand people better. See things through their point of view, not ours, only then we can communicate better. I was kinda pissed of with this old man on the train. He lost balance and wanted to fall so what he did was support his full weight on me as if i was some kind of pillar and he pushed me off. I gave him a cold hard stare and he apologized. I’m not the kind who gets pissed off easily over small little things, but this push was really too much. And he just can’t stop playing with his false teeth. He keeps on pushing it out and putting it back in again. It’s really unsightly. You might be wondering why i didn’t look away or just move away. Yeah i would if the train wasn’t that crowded. I really had no space to move and my view was only this old man. It was a complete torture.

Enough said about him. I also managed to do some fast shopping at Funan IT Mall. I bought a small mouse a keypad protector for my MacBook. I’ve been wanting to buy them for quite some time already but i just don’t have the time. I guess it’s a little bit too late as my MacBook has turned yellowish. That’s the thing with white coloured equipments. They get dirty easily and even if you take care of them, they will turn yellowish over time. Okay i think i really need some sleep now. I’m still having the flu especially at night.

A few days back when i woke up from bed, i realized that my throat was uncomfortable. I knew that i’m gonna be sick in a few days time. Those are early symptoms of a common flu.

All in all, it took me 3 days and here i am with the flu! What i really hate about catching a flu is the difficulty to breathe. With only one nostril to breathe, it’s really irritating. Not to mention having to lose your sense of taste. Everything that you eat or drink pretty much tastes the same. I’m also not the type who likes to eat medicine. I believe that my body has it’s own anti-virus and that it’s been working really good for me. All i need is rest and more sleep. Sleeping basically cures anything.

For now, what i need is, lots and lots of tissue paper. Only soft tissues please as toilet paper tissues are gonna hurt my nose. And it’s not only just me, this flu season has been spreading all over the island. Please take care of yourselves by taking more vitamin C!

Last night was the very first time that i actually been inside a construction site. I followed a buddy there and i have been tagging along with him for a few days now to watch and learn. We had to wait in the blazing hot sun while one of the guys there get us our safety gears.

I now know that safety gears are very important and they are strictly enforced on anyone who enters a construction site. If you do not follow these safety rules, the penalty is heavy. Not just your life is endangered, but your cash too. Anyway, i really learnt a lot by tagging along. I get to know what a switch does and what is VLAN. Configuring the switch i cannot learn in just one day but at least i get to see the picture of how things work. We spent almost 12 hours there and we only had one meal for the whole day. It is a very hectic and tiring day especially for my buddy who does most of the work. Went for supper which was actually our dinner and went home around 2am.

So to end it all up, here’s what i have to say. D-Link switches, troubleshooting, dirty floors, annoying P.A System, super cold rooms, safety helmet and traveling. They all SUCKS! But it was nice though

Remember those cool Polaroid cameras with instant prints of your shots? You’d have to wait and flap them up and down to speed up the developing process. When the picture was done, you’d be holding the one and only original shot of that particular moment in that particular Polaroid look. No negatives, no duplicates, truely exclusive.

Being expensive and destined to be replaced by the extremely easy and cheap digital cameras, Polaroid went down the drain… a great loss indeed.

But now you can relive the dream through this ingenious software! Poladroid offers a chance to Polarize your existing digital photos to give it that distinctive feel and you even get to wait for it while it happens!

Just give it a go, it’s free to use and extremely cool! Just drag and drop your favourite shot and see it come to life in the Polaroid way! Click here for the Windows version and click here for Mac!

It’s really different now. When most of your friends are from around your age group. Everything just happens so fast, it’s like the friends you once knew from secondary school, they’re all married with kids now. Cousins whom i used to play with when i was little are also married now.

I’ve already made up my mind that i’m not getting married. I’m sorry to disappoint anyone but i guess mom will understand. It’s better not to get married, tying the knot and ending up with a divorce. Talking about marriage, i was reminded that one of my colleague is getting married next week. I was like what?! Next week?! Yeah i have a short term memory especially when it comes to dates. That is why relationships just won’t work out for me. Girls are really particular about dates. Not all but most of them. Yeah so i’m just counting down to how many single friends i have left.

This windows prompt is really bugging me! You know the one that prompts you to “restart now” or “restart later”. The usual thing that happens right after you update Windows. Seriously, Windows really think that we’re really dumb. Even after i clicked restart later, after a few minutes, it will prompt me again and again until i freaking restart! I mean if that’s the case, why bother ask? Windows, can you just restart without asking me next time just like how you always do when i haven’t save my work! Grrr..
