Is your old PC having sluggish performance? What’s the primary cause of slow/unstable PC performance? It’s disk fragmentation. Smart Defrag helps defragment your hard drives more efficiently than any other product on the market free or not. This powerful, award-winning free defragmenter is 100% safe and clean with no adware, spyware, or viruses.

Smart Defrag doesn’t just use simple defragmentation. It also streamlines your file system, places the frequently used files and directories into the fastest area of the disk, enabling your computer to run at top speed with the most stability.

It works automatically and quietly in the background, so it continually and constantly keeps your computer fragment-free.

Smart Defrag is a free defragging tool and worth investigating. It’s also rather fast. The answer is to defragment your drive. This will move files in to one continuous block and rearrange the space so that it ends up located in one big block of space. It means your files and applications launch much more quickly.

Have you lost your Windows CD Key and are desperately looking for it? No backups, nothing. What do you do now? Well till you have your Original installation you can easily find the Product key without breaking a sweat.

Here are the simple steps you need to perform in order to get your Product Key from the installation CD.
Do take note that this method only works on certain CD’s. It’s still worth a try though.

1. Insert the Installation CD into your CD / Drive Drive.

2. Explore the CD and navigate to the i386 folder.

3. Open the file UNATTEND.txt and scroll down to the last line.

4. You will find your Windows XP Product key there.

I was able to find the CD key on a Windows XP Professional Edition installation CD and would love to know if you were able to find it on your own installation CDs. Do let us know through your comments on how it went for you.

On my previous post, i did mention that i was having some problems with the new WordPress 3.0.1 but did not really elaborate on it. I was actually having some issues when i try to upload an image on my blog posts. I never had any problems with the older versions, so i’m pretty sure that this upgrade is the cause.

Did my usually searching and some say that an outdated Flash and Java should fix the problem. I tried but it doesn’t work. In fact, my Flash and Java were already up to date. The strange thing is, i can only see the upload page if i scroll all the way down and it’s like the upload page which was supposed to pop-up got messed up.

It’s definitely not some folder permission problem but a scripting problem. Things get a lot easier once you can narrow down the root of the problem.

Now that i know it’s a scripting problem, the first thing on my mind was to reinstall WordPress 3.0.1. But then again, me being me, i’m just way too lazy to do it the manual way so i did the easy way. Here’s how.

Login to your WordPress Admin Panel. Click on Dashboard. Then look for Updates. This is a new feature in the newer versions of WordPress which makes my life easier. What i did was click on Re-install Automatically and it’s fixed!

This is not a bug and it won’t happen to most users but then again, i’m always one of the few unlucky ones which always face problems. My guess is, the day i upgraded, some files were not properly uploaded and therefore causing this issue. My advice is, don’t upgrade too early, upgrade after a few weeks whenever a new WordPress version is released. Good Luck!

Today, my task is to check weather a Cisco 1800 Series is still functional. In order to do so, i will need to plug in the console cable to a PC and connect through HyperTerminal. HyperTerminal is an application you can use in order to connect your computer to other remote systems. These systems include other computers, bulletin board systems, servers, Telnet sites, and online services. However, you would need a modem, an Ethernet connection, or a null modem cable before you can use HyperTerminal.

In Windows XP, HyperTerminal is already installed by default under START, then ACCESSORIES, then COMMUNICATIONS, then HYPERTERMINAL. So i connect the console to a PC that’s running on Windows 7, and could not find the HyperTerminal. I find it odd that Windows 7 is supposed to be the latest Windows OS, and still not have certain functions which XP has.

Then i came up with an article which says that you will need the HyperTerminal files from Windows XP in order to run HyperTerminal in Windows 7. Thanks Bill Gates for making users paying hundreds of dollars for a “so called” latest OS and not having functions in which the older OS has.

The workaround for this is very easy but the tedious part is getting the HyperTerminal files on Windows XP. As usual, i always suggest and recommend the best method for my readers and it couldn’t get any simpler than this.

First, just download the file here. If you’re wondering what’s in it, well, it’s the HyperTerminal files taken from a Windows XP machine. Yes, i just saved you the trouble of finding the files. Now all you have to do is, create a new folder, name it “Hyper Terminal” or whatever you may prefer, and just extract all the files you’ve just downloaded in there. Run the application and there you go!

Finally after so long, i’ve decided to make a come back. Don’t worry, it’s not that i’ve stopped blogging but i guess i needed a break. To be honest, i’ve kinda lost touch with blogging ever since i went to reservist. So here we go, i’m back!

I have so many things in life that i need to do but i have not. I’m just being too lazy again and again. I’m still not living my life yet. While i’m on my break, i’m piled up with many weird problems from customers which i’m still searching for answers. Even me, myself is having problems with the new WordPress 3.0.1. Once it’s solved, i will then share it with all my readers as usual.

Anyway, i will not write much for today’s post but i wanna wish Singapore and all its citizens a Happy National Day. I know it’s late but still better than forgetting. Honestly, i’m not a patriotic Singaporean and i didn’t even watch the NDP Parade on television. I’m so not into stuffs like birthdays, anniversaries and other celebrations. And yah, by the way, how old is Singapore this year?

Recently, my cousin introduced me yet another addictive free MMPORG game. It’s not my first time playing such games so for those who love free MMPORG games, well i would definitely recommend this game. It’s called Battle Of The Immortals, also known as BOI for short. It’s from Perfect World Entertainment. I’ve played Perfect World before and i have to say that their graphics are nice.

There are a total of five classes in this game. Berzerker, Champion, Heretic, Magus and Slayer. Just like all the other free MMPORG games, each class have their own strength and weaknesses. The most common question that people like to ask is, which class is the best? The thing is, there is no such thing as the best class. Just play and enjoy building up your character. One of the feature that makes this game different from the other free MMPORG games that i’ve played before is that, there’s daily quests for you to do everyday which gives you “EXP” to level up.

Just do the daily quest if you’re not the type who likes to grind and eventually you’ll level up. Of course, not as fast as those who grind but still, your character is not stagnant. To make it even better, there have this event daily, called Tree Of Life which basically gives you free exp for one hour everyday just by “AFK-ing”. Another feature that i love is the double exp. Unlike other games, whereby when you enable your “Double Exp”, it will expire within a few hours. But for this game, you can turn it in on and off whenever you like!

The only feature that i don’t really fancy is that they use your “EXP” to upgrade your skills. Getting “EXP” for higher levels is very precious if you know what i mean. If you’re planning to play this game, i would highly recommend you to use an “Induction ID” when you first create your character. By using this, you will get special gears and weapons when starting out. If you want this code, do let me know but you’ll have to play on server Abyss (West) for this code to work!

Windows 7 comes ready with gadgets (more like widgets to me) but it’s not enabled by default. Gadgets are those stuffs you see on some people’s desktop which displays their CPU usage, Upload & Download speed, Ram usage and so on.

How do i enable it? Well in Windows 7, it’s very easy. One of the features that i like about Windows 7 is it’s search function. The search function on Windows 7 works just like MacOSX.

All you have to do is, hit on the windows logo (start button) and type in “gadgets” (without the quotes of course) and just click on “Desktop Gadgets“.

Now you’ll be able to see a list of ten pre-installed gadgets ready for use. To use it, just double click on the gadget. To get rid of a gadget, just hover your mouse on the gadget on your desktop and click “x” just like any other Windows application.

Not the gadget you’re looking for? Well don’t worry, those are the default gadgets. You can download more gadgets from the official Microsoft website here. Personally, i’m the type who don’t really like gadgets on my desktop. I like my desktop clean. So for those who love gadgets, have fun with them. Just make sure you don’t download anything from an untrusted source.

For the past two days, my journey to work and many other Singaporeans alike has been a wet one. Seriously, before it even hit the news, on the very first morning where i experienced the heavy downpour, i told myself this is one of the worst rain i ever came across.

Just imagine, i had an umbrella. The road i was walking on was gushing with water which made my shoes wet and it feels as if i’m walking in a river. Having wet socks and shoes the first thing in the morning have definitely spoilt your day. To make matters worst, the strong winds are causing all the raindrops to blow directly at my direction. That just made me think, what use is an umbrella in this kind of weather? I’m all wet and i have to hold the umbrella tight as the strong winds are blowing it off. It’s just days like these where i wished i had those weird Japanese umbrellas which covers you from head to toe.

On the other hand, Orchard Road has turned into a river. This is the first time i’ve seen such heavy rain that cause floods. The last time i experienced flood was way back in the “kampung” days which i was too young to even remember. This natural disasters made me realize that no one is safe from mother nature. People who think Singapore is a safe country, well you’re right but then again, when it comes to natural disasters, no one is safe. To watch one of the most detailed videos on YouTube on Orchard Road flood, click here. Thanks to the user “noblecoins” for the upload.

Just because there aren’t many natural disasters happening doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Trust me it will. That is why we must all be prepared for the worse and not to take things for granted. So for the next few days, please be reminded to bring along your umbrella especially if you’re going out in the morning. Better still, bring along a raincoat as an umbrella won’t be much help in this weather.

Microsoft Outlook is one of the most popular email client that’s being used nowadays. Of course, there’s a lot more email clients available and free for download. But for today’s tutorial, i am going to share with you on how to backup and restore your emails and contacts.

Locating the pst-file

Before you can make a backup you’ll need to know what to backup first. In the case of Outlook in a home environment, all data is stored in a single file with a pst-extension. The pst-file is also known as Personal Folders and is able to store several mail, contacts, journal, notes and calendar folders.

You can locate your pst-file by using one of the following methods;

Make sure you include hidden and system files and folders when searching for a pst-file

By default it is located in;

C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

For Windows Vista and Windows 7 the default is;

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\

You can also locate the file by using;
Right click the root folder (probably Outlook Today)-> Properties-> button Advanced-> field Filename

If you have multiple pst-files you can get an overview via;
File-> Data File Management…

Export pst-file

It’s a general misconception that an export of your mail is a good backup. This misconception gets even bigger if you run the export and see that the default name of the file to export to is backup.pst. The reason that it isn’t a backup is because you will lose data during an export, even if you configure the export feature to export all the folders and subfolders. Amongst others, the following data gets lost during an export;

custom forms

custom views

Wizard Rules

folder properties like AutoArchive settings

An export of your pst-file to another pst-file can be seen as a selective backup since during the export you can choose which data you want to backup. This is handy if you see no need in backing up the entire pst-file like the Sent Items folder or the Funny Forwards folder (who doesn’t have one of those?) which can get quite big over time and you might consider them as not important enough to backup.

Let’s say you only want to export your Inbox and your Contacts folder;

Choose File-> Import and Export…

Choose Export to a file

Choose Personal Folder File (.pst)

Select the Inbox and press Next (we do the Contacts folder later)

Set the file location to D:\My Documents\My Outlook\Backup\export.pst

Press Finish and you’ll be prompted to set properties for the export.pst file

In the Name field type a descriptive name like “Export June 2004″ (yeah, I wrote this guide a long time ago but don’t worry; I still keep it up to date!)

Press OK to start the export

To export the Contacts folder as well repeat step 1 to 4 and this time select the Contacts folder

If the save location is not set to the path you’ve set in step 5 browse to it

Press Finish to export the Contact folder

Close Outlook and copy the exported file to your safe location.

Import pst-file

Importing a pst-file can only be done in a working Outlook situation, like when you’ve reinstalled your machine, configured Outlook and now want to restore your Inbox and Contacts. Importing a pst-file can be done in two different ways; automatically through a wizard or manually by dragging and dropping. Before importing, restore your pst-file; Copy the file to the location where you want to work with it like; D:\My Documents\My Outlook\Temp. If you restored from CD/DVD, make sure you uncheck the “Read Only” file attribute by right clicking the file and choosing Properties.

Restore through the Import and Export Wizard

Choose File-> Import and Export…

Choose Import from another program or file

Choose Personal Folder File (.pst)

Browse to the location where you’ve restored the pst file (D:\My Documents\My Outlook\Temp)

Set the options to “Include subfolders” and “Import items into the same folder in:” and select the folder that is listed as your Outlook Today folder set in the dropdown list

Press Finish to complete the import

Restart Outlook and remove the export.pst file from the Temp directory if desired

Restore manually

Choose File-> Open-> Outlook Data File…

Browse to the location where you’ve restored the pst file (D:\My Documents\My Outlook\Temp)

You’ll now see an additional set of folders added to your folder list which you can expand. Expand the list and select the Inbox folder

In this folder select the messages you want to restore to the original Inbox folder

Drag & drop them to the default Inbox folder

Do the same for the Contacts folder. You might want to set your view to a list view so you can easily select and move the items. To change the view choose View-> Arrange By-> Category

Now that the importing is complete, right click the pst-file added in step 2 and choose Disconnect

Restart Outlook and remove the export.pst file from the Temp directory if desire.

As many of us have already expected, it has now become a reality. The father of the iPhone has recently came up with the iPhone 4. The new iPhone has a thinner design, a sharper screen and has video-chat features.

“It’s the biggest leap we’ve taken since the original iPhone,” Jobs said. He called the new model, which has higher resolution and a front-facing camera capable of video calling, the “most precise, beautiful thing.”

That’s what he does best. Last time, the way he introduced the iPhone, it was like the best thing ever created. And now with the new iPhone 4, he said it’s most precise and beautiful thing.

Well Steve Jobs, the thing is, anything that has an Apple logo, is always the best product for you and your Apple zombies.

We all know that this will never be the end of Steve Jobs. In fact, right now at this very moment, he might just be thinking of the next “iProduct”. Soon everything has an “i” infront of it. I’m not talking bad about Steve Jobs, but i’m rather amazed on how strong the power of branding can be.

Well for all i know, all the current iPhone owners now will be aiming for this new iPhone 4. There will be lots of second hand iPhones for sale on auctions sites. This is how Apple works. Launch a product, sell as much as possible till almost everyone has it. Then, launch the same product again, only this time with a little more functions and sell it again. Good job Steve Jobs & Apple. Good luck to all Apple lovers and don’t forget to work harder to earn your money and give it to Apple!
